We enjoyed learning all about creation this week. We started by creating interesting things in the classroom out of a range of materials, from lego to play dough and then thought about how we should treat each other’s creations carefully. We went on a scavenger hunt outside (in the rain!) to find natural items that inspired us, including pine cones, apples and petals. We learnt what Christians believe about creation and created some paper plates to represent each day in their creation story. Finally, we looked at lots of different pictures of people caring, or not caring, for the environment and discussed what we can do to look after our beautiful world.
Shhh! Save the date…
Just a quick heads up that we will be going on a trip next term. Please don’t tell your children yet as we’d like to save the surprise for in class but we will need plenty of helpers and are conscious working parents need as much notice as possible. A formal letter will come home the first day back but we are delighted to be going to a working farm in North Dorset. The cost will be an absolute bargain £1 as we have managed to secure some funding from several sources!
The dates will be
Grayling – Tuesday 10 May
Skipper – Thursday 19 May
Meadow – Tuesday 24 May
Science Dome
We started this week with a visit from Neil and the Science Dome. Neil is a geologist and had some of the most interesting fossils that we were able to hold and look carefully at including a very large lump of fossilised dinosaur poo! After Neil had shown us his fossil collection we went inside the dome where we were transported back in time to see some dinosaurs on a giant 360 degree screen! Thank you all who contributed to the funding of the Dome including a very generous donation from Damers PTA!
Measuring
We have been investigating measures. Last week we looked at height and we started to use standard and non standard measures to find out how tall and short things are.
Patterns
For the next 2 weeks we will be investigating patterns. This week we have focused on AB repeating patterns which are patterns of 2. The children have been making their own!
Belated post …DAY 100!
Many apologies, I thought this post had posted before half term but it appears not to have been!
We had a fantastic Day 100/Space party. We had 100 balloons to play with, 100 paper cups to build structures with, 100 coins to count and much more. We made alien biscuits and ate them up and played fun party games. The best bit about it all … we are now 100 days smarter! Yay!
A visit to Mars!
What a fab time we had today on our trip to Mars! Thank you so much to the Corn Exchange and Bob for such a lovely time. It was such a treat to see a REAL piece of Mars and sit under the replica to listen to a story!
An extra big thanks to all the helpers that helped us walk back to school! Thank you grown ups!
Home learning 18.02.22
Good morning everyone!
Hopefully we will have seen you live at 9.15 but here are the jobs we’d like you to get on with today…
Look back at the phonics videos here on the blog and pick a couple to watch again. Be ready to join in as if you were in class!
You could also practise the phonemes you find more tricky in your Letters and Sounds book, play a game with your tricky words, practise writing your letters.
I am ever so sorry but I was not able to get the reading books out in time, you can find plenty of reading games on ICT games and there are also some phonics based books that you can read together here.

We have been learning about pairs of numbers that total a bigger number up to 10. Have a go at this game and see if you can save the whale whilst practising your number bonds.

You could also try this counting game.

We will meet up again after lunch at 1.30 for a fun activity to finish the week.

Internet Safety Day
Today is national Safer Internet Day and we have spent time in class discussing how we use the internet in our day-to-day lives and how to stay safe when online or when using technology with a particular focus on online gaming. The discussions we had in class today might be a good starting point for a discussion at home about online safety so if your child can’t remember what they did at school today then ask them about how they can stay safe online and they might be able to give you a few pointers!
For more information you can also look at our Online Safety pages on the Damers website here http://www.damers.dorset.sch.uk/parents/online-safety/ or you could also visit the national Safer Internet Day website at https://saferinternet.org.uk/safer-internet-day/safer-internet-day-2022
